Michael Savage is third generation of the
family business started by his grandfather in 1905. In those days R.S. Savage and Sons
were purely picture framers but the business gradually evolved with the opening of two
shops in Kettering Road and St. Giles Street, Northampton, selling artists materials,
books, stationery, prints and paintings.
In 1970, after the death of both Michael's grandparents he and his father, Robert, became
R.S.J. Savage and Son, and in one of the firms original premises on the corner of Stockley
Street and Alfred Street in Northampton, opened a gallery selling both original paintings
and prints. They also provided a framing and restoration service not only for the general
public but also for some of the large national retailers, and pub and hotel chains.
After Michael's father's death in 1979 and
with the upsurge in the Fast Framing market Michael made the decision to concentrate on
selling Original Works of Art, providing a specialist restoration service and also a high-quality,
bespoke framing service.
In 1995 Michael closed the Gallery in Northampton. He is now based from home, taking space for Exhibitions four times a year at The Northampton and County Club, in George Row, Northampton and each September he stages a One-Man Show for one of the county's foremost contemporary
artists at a large Country House within the County.
He is still planning for the future with dates pencilled in for One Man Shows and Mixed Exhibitions up to 2010. He can be contacted by telephone on 01604 755260, by fax on 01604 754342, or contact us by e-mail.
